Paul Bradbury started Kanawha Valley Scale Service in 1954. Most of the business at that time was serving the chemical and coal industries in West Virginia.
In 1984, Jim Bradbury, the current president, changed the name from Kanawha Valley Scale Service to Kanawha Scales & Systems Inc. to better reflect the focus and direction of the company.
Over the years, Kanawha Scales and Systems has steadily evolved from a weighing equipment service company into a fully integrated company, providing engineering solutions for plant floor automation, material handling, controls systems engineering, mechanical design, hydraulic design engineering, computer and PLC programming and data base management systems. The growth of Kanawha Scales has been a well conceived strategy. From its original beginnings, the company has grown to over 200 employees with branch offices and subsidiary companies in fourteen different cities throughout the Northeast and Central United States, as well as an office in Beijing, China.
Today Kanawha Scales and Systems Inc. is recognized as one of the largest and premier providers of total weighing and control solutions throughout the United States. In addition, the company's growth has extended to include custom solutions on an International basis with successful installations in Canada, South America, The People's Republic of China , Australia and South Africa.
